Welcome to MetLib09!

You are invited to participate in the IFLA Metropolitan Libraries 2009 Conference, to be held from Sunday 10 May – Friday 15 May 2009 in Brisbane, Australia.

The Metropolitan Libraries section, under the auspices of IFLA, has its annual mid-term as a conference.

The MetLib 2009 theme Embracing the future will offer delegates an opportunity to present recent innovations and case studies. The Conference sub-themes are:

  • Community
  • Collections
  • Creativity and new media
  • Capability and careers

The program includes presentations by invited experts and commentators in the conference sub-themes. There will also be site visits to libraries and cultural institutions.

Brisbane is the gateway to the rest of Australia, a diverse and wonderful country that we encourage delegates to explore before and after the Conference. Cultural attractions abound: from one of the oldest Indigenous cultures in the world, to modern vibrant cities. Brisbane's compactness provides delegates with a sense of ownership and belonging, while still offering the high end options of a city including one of Australia's most awarded convention centres.

By attending IFLA MetLib 2009, we have no doubt that delegates will enjoy an experience of a lifetime in a place like nowhere else on earth.

We look forward to seeing you in Brisbane in 2009!

Sharan Harvey and Vicki McDonald
Co-convenors, MetLib 2009
